About Xcalak

Located on the Caribbean side of Mexico, Xcalak is one of the finest permit, tarpon, bonefish, cuda, snook, and jack fisheries in the world. A town of 400 sits at the Yucatan Peninsula’s southern most tip, and boasts endless flats, mangroves, and lagoons—the perfect feeding ground for the most sought after fish to put a bend in a fly rod. Permit fishing is what it is: fishing. Many have tried, some have succeeded, but we love to be able to get people down south for a shot (promise there will be LOTS of shots) at one of these fish. Between the flats on the Caribbean side, the flats on Chetumal Bay, and the lagoons, the fish are plentiful. If the permit are playing hard-to-get, bonefish and other hard fighting flats predators can be targeted with ease.

Your Experience at XFlats

The lodge is a preexisting hotel called Tierra Maya, which has been altered into the fishiest home base anyone could ask for. Jesse Colten, owner, will typically be down there to greet and take care of you throughout your stay—if he is not, Chad or Stephen will. Our incredibly knowledgeable guides will handle the on-water service of putting you on fish.

Visit The Xflats website for more information or reach out to us directly. We would love the opportunity to join you on your quest for the elusive Permit!
